"Sure enough, like a bad gangster movie, Eve ran on to the pavement with a pistol in her hand"
This is a strange book. It's set in 1946 London but reads like a hard-boiled crime noir with a femme fatale. The voice of the author keeps reminding me of better crime novels of a later era and sounds way too modern for the 1940s.
It's action driven so there's not much build up of atmosphere or a sense of surroundings, although Nazis and Germans are ever present. I believe the word for such genre is pastiche?
