I am having a topsy turvy start to the new year with reading "Son" by Lois Lowry first and then followed by "The Giver" Plot points in "Son" made so much more sense now. But I will need to fill the void with The Messenger and Gathering Blue before I can really express how I feel about the whole series. My heart goes out to Jonas and Gabriel and the loss of innocence. And the cover made so much more sense now that I read Lowry's explanation for the inspiration/s for her book.
