The split time line (3 different periods) makes it very hard to follow the plot.It almost feels as if the author chose that structure to allow her to break up her writing into large chunks. 400 pages go by really quickly but only because it has been broken up to about 100 pages each for each period. Back and forth.
It seems to be a common device for summer books to do this but it's really getting tired very fast.
