As with all novels with parents/kids/murder/whodunit themes, it's always painful to realise that one never really understand one's children and then ultimately all that nature/nurture dichotomy goes out the window and one is left with one's failures, both as parents as well as being the child/children.
This novel would have been run of the mill but it does have a Pico (can I say that) twist at the end but I enjoy the sentiments drawn out in the telling of this tale.
I would have given 3 1/2 stars, but grandpa was a plot distraction.
