Collateral: A Novel

Collateral - Ellen Hopkins Doing a novel once in free verse was inspired (read Triangles). Doing it twice is just lazy. It just gives the illusion of a thick book with very little insights and a lot of empty spaces. The author claims it is not a "romance novel" but the cover shows a woman and a soldier and the blurb reads "about a young woman torn between passionate first love and the gripping realities of war". I am sorry. Raw tuna may be sashimi but it was still fish. Easy read for the facebook/twitter generation but shallow writing with sweeping generalisation and almost no writer's voice or insights. YA disguised as adult fiction
