Definitely a case of a writer resting on her laurels/genre.
After 16 books, you would expect an improvement in the quality of writing but it just feels like the same procedural and autopsy over and over again.
The paragraphs are all over the place and it makes it harder and harder to follow what the characters are doing.
Brennan seems emotionally stunted in the past few books. It is getting harder and harder to empathize with her as a character as this series meanders along.
Time to pack this series in and move on to another writer with more to offer in terms of pace/plot/motivation.
